Benefits Of Garage Floor Coatings

There are a few benefits if you add floor coating to your garage. One of the major benefits of using a garage is you can add modifications to your car. Many youngsters love to work on cars, but if you see at the end of the weekend your garage becomes messy. Therefore, if you want to clean up the oil and grease stains it would be better if you apply garage floor paint. Working on such a type of floor would provide a safer environment for working on your projects and in turn would be a great benefit to any auto-enthusiast. Earlier, we mentioned that adding floor paint to your garage would add value to your home’s worth. Most of the garage floors are boring but if you use epoxy paint to the garage floor you can see that it will absorb oil and grease stains easily.

There are different types of garage floor coatings –polyurethane, epoxy and latex. Epoxy bonds well with the concrete and the result is hard, durable surface that resists stains. Before applying epoxy paint on the garage clean the garage floor. Ensure that garage floor is free of any dirt or dust. Another option is polyurethane which does not turn yellow. Finished result is durable and has a very high gloss. Before applying polyurethane floor paint you need to apply an epoxy primer to the garage floor. Another option is latex garage floor paint. This is cheapest option when compared to epoxy and polyurethane. It requires a minimum of 72 hours of drying up before parking your vehicle. Latex floor paint should have an antique look and can resemble stonework or even leather. You’ll need to add a protective coating to the latex to make a finish permanent. Too much exposure to sunlight may cause damage to latex floor paint. Use a broom to put grooves into the paint to create a non-slip surface.

Among all the three if you see epoxy floor paint is the best choice because it is water resistant, easy to apply and tends to stick better to concrete and seal. They are also shinier and are equally easy to clean and maintain. They are very durable as these lasts for a long time with minimal repairs. To clean the floor, you can simply use a mop over it and you should be done. It is very easy to remove oil stains from garage floor.

Can hot rolled steel be used as a cooking griddle? Is the hard coating poisonous?

I have found that 1/4″ thick hot rolled steel makes a great pancake griddle for stove top use, but I am concerned that the hard surface coating on the steel may be toxic, especially when heated. The surface is very hard, smooth, and inherently non stick. Is it OK to cook on properly cleaned and seasoned hot rolled steel?

Yes, once you’ve made certain to remove any chemical coating it might have had in its “other life”, you can use a sheet of steel for a griddle. If it was made specifically for use as a griddle, all you need to do is treat it the same way you would a new cast iron griddle: wash it before first use with warm water and a mild dish detergent and a plastic scouring pad to remove the wax coating put on at the factory. Then dry it well and season it with Crisco. The steel itsself you won’t be able to make so hot that it exudes anything toxic. You wouldn’t need to get it that hot anyhow.
